Keeping Up With Kobin

Today was such a great day. Ms. Ann Wyatt Little came from Austin Fox 7 News and interviewed Kobin about his wish. Kobin did really well and showed his passion for his wish. Kobin's segment aired on Fox 7 News during the 5pm airing and we all sat around the TV ready to celebrate. When his story was aired again on the 8pm news we saw an instant out pour of love from the community. We are so blessed to live in an area where people are willing to help a little boy reach his goals. You can catch his story at http://www.myfoxaustin.com/story/26329577/kobins-birthday-wish-sticker-books-for-children-in-texas-hospitals

Today was another great day for shopping for donations. We were able to hit up Garden Ridge and get 238books, some of which were activity/coloring books. Then we went to another book store and got just a few books to add to the already growing total. We were also able to go to a dollar store where we got boxes of band-aid's and stickers and a few more books for older kids.

Today most kids in Central Texas started School, but Kobin was one of the few who did not. Being as he still has to have help going to the restroom (being as his balance is not good at all and we can't risk him falling) he won't be starting school until he can walk or at least stand on his cast which right now is supposed to be some time in late September or early October. However just because Kobin couldn't start doesn't mean he couldn't support his brother when he started school so that is what Kobin did.. When Kobin does start he will be in 1st grade.

Today Kobin went back to the OR to have another cast change, When to doctor came back to talk with me about what he did, he said that he was amazed at how well he is healing. The doc scrapped what he said he was going to do which is pull out the pins in Kobin's leg and then put a long legged cast on him, and instead he pulled out the pins and was able to put a short legged cast on Kobin. We are so happy, because until Kobin was able to do a few basic things on his own he couldn't go to school and with pin's in his leg he needed more help. So on 8/28 Kobin will be allowed to stand (not walk) on his cast and then in 2 weeks he will be allowed to slowly walk. This is huge being as he was supposed to not be walking for another month at least. Kobin will also start school on Tuesday 9/2/2014. YEAH!!!!!!!!!

Today was a big day for a few reasons. The first reason is that Kobin got to stand on his foot for the first time in a month. His doctor said that he is healing so fast that he can now stand on his foot but not walk just yet. Kobin waited till his Daddy and his brother got home so they could see this mile stone.
The second reason it was so great was that Kobin's favorite restaurant In N Out sent him a donation of many stickers. This is the restaurant where he came up with his idea so after our most recent visit and him playing with their stickers he asked me if I thought they would give him some stickers to donate and so I asked. He was very very excited.

Sorry it has been a while since there has been an update. Things here have been pretty quiet. We have received some donations and were busy sending out Thank You card.s. Yesterday however was a special day because Kobin got to go to our local Police Department and pick up a donation that they had for him.. Sargent Smith gave Kobin 575 stickers and another very special gift, 2 police badges. He was very very excited about everything. Our plan now is to possibly have a sticker and band-aid drive with the Police Department. So please keep your fingers crossed that we will get to do that.

We went to Round Rock Police Department to meet with Joseph Claypool for a donation pick up. We couldn't have asked for more. Kobin received 76 coloring books and 28 crayon packets. We look forward to going back next week and meeting the Chief.

Today Kobin went and got his cast off. It was another big big step in his healing. We have watched Kobin progress faster than expected which is a testament to how strong Kobin is. He will still use his walker and still has a long way to go before he is back to normal.

Kobin is back in a cast. On Monday evening while getting items for the donation pile he started crying because of pain. We went to 2 ER's over two days. On Thursday we were able to get back in with Kobin's Specialist and he said that the little bit of bone that healed had fractured. His doctor didn't expect Kobin to be walking so much. However we were told to resume activities as normal, so we did. Kobin's doctor decided Kobin needed to be put back into a cast and he now has to stay off his foot completely for 2 weeks and then he will be able to put pressure on his leg to just stand but not walk. for the remaining 2 weeks. Then we will go back and see Kobin's doctor again and reevaluate where Kobin is.
Kobin was able to bribe his doctor into letting him have 3 colors again which was funny to watch. The doctor said no and he only did 2 color's in the office but Kobin said we would bring cupcakes and cookies next time we came to see him, then the doctor's tune changed and he said OK.

Kobin has had a lot happen since the last post. We had 2 fundraisers with Highlights Gametime Grill. He also received a very large donation from Pflugerville Police Department as well as the Fire Department in Pflurgerville and from Crenshaw's Athletic Club in Austin.
Kobin also turned 7 years old. His birthday was celebrated with family. We will be dropping off all of the donations that Kobin received to Dell Children's Hospital on 10/24 at 2pm and then all donations we receive after 10/24 will go to Dallas Children's Hospital on 12/12.
We also had a great surprise on Kobin's birthday. Amanda from KXAN came and did an interview on Kobin's Wish. It was very very exciting! Be on the look out for Kobin's Interview on KXAN on Sunday 10/26 after the football game.
